Humility in Business
I was listening to Dave Ramsey today. If you don't know Dave, he's a radio financial guru, bent on getting people out of debt. For years, he has hosted his radio show, spoken at seminars, written books, and helped thousands get out of debt and attain financial prosperity. Oh yeah, he's fairly wealthy himself.
Today, I noticed something I somehow missed the previous hundred times I listened to his show. People frequently call in to tell him they are debt free. Inevitably, Dave asks, "How did you do it?" or "What was your secret?" Here's a guy who knows everything there is to know about this stuff, and he's asking his callers how they did it.
I think the humility approach is great for two reasons. First, you learn more when you ask. Second, it seems like people open up and trust more when they feel appreciated and listened to.
One more thing: genuine humility can't be faked (at least, not by me).
CONGRATULATIONS....Looks like things are going great! I sent JoAnn your web-site so hope she gets in touch with you.
I think your website is fantastic! I like your comments about Dave Ramsey. Being a life-time learner must have humility as its companion. Life with these will usually be exciting, purposeful and beneficial to others.
Hey Jonathan...I wish you all the best in your endeavors and have always been impressed with your entrepreneurial (man that's hard to spell) spirit. You are right...there's a reason humility is considered a virtue. When people trust that you really have their best interest at heart it's amazing what can happen.
